The Amazon Echo is a compact AI device, compatible with many smart home devices. The Echo Dot is a smaller version of it and the only difference I found is the speaker quality. They are also known as Alexa because that is the wake word for them. Alexa can do basic things such as set a timer or alarm, and tell you the weather and traffic. But she has many other features that make her different from other AI.

Jokes are definitely not Siri’s specialty but Alexa has a pretty good “sense of humor”, at least for a small home robot. She can tell jokes, puns, pickup lines, roasts, and compliments. Alexa also has a great song and rap.

Who doesn’t love a good game show? With the Alexa app that connects directly to your Echo device, you can enable skills. Some of which are games, such as Jeopardy, Deal or no Deal, and Song Quiz. So if you don’t have anything fun to do, just ask Alexa to play a game.

Alexa connects directly to your Amazon account. So if you have Prime she can play your Prime music that come free with Amazon Prime accounts. If you don’t have a Prime account she can still play samples of Prime music or she can act as a smart speaker and connect to your phone. Also if you own any Kindle or Audible books Alexa can read them to you.

If you are some one that purchases things on Amazon often, the Echo devices could be very helpful to you. In the Alexa app you can enable voice purchasing which allows you to ask Alexa for a certain product; she will tell you about it and ask you if you would like to purchase it. If you do purchase something it will be shipped straight to your home. Also sometimes Alexa gives discounts on certain products when purchasing through her.

Do you own any smart home devices? If so you could connect them to Alexa and go hands free with things like: TV, lights (Philips Hue Smart lights), thermostat (Nest smart thermostat). Also if you don’t have any smart devices in your home, many TV providers are Alexa compatible such as Dish, Direct TV, and Amazon Fire stick/TV.

Alexa has an Aux port and is Bluetooth compatible. So if you own a speaker and are planning to buy an Alexa device I would suggest the Echo Dot. If you do not own a speaker, I would suggest the Echo.
